In this mask building workshop, participants will design and build a character mask from clay, brown bags, wood glue and paint. They will be led through the initial conception of a mask based on faces they know or inspired by, including traditional commedia dell’arte archetypes. After construction, the masks require 24 hours to dry before they can be painted. Finally, participants will be given the opportunity to write and perform from the mask they have created and work through some basic mask performance and creation exercises.
